Chapter 8 - Human body

Images from my exhibition Human body -1

There are about 640 muscles in the human body, the main function is contraction and relaxation.

In this way, the muscles produce the strength needed to produce movements. The nerves carry electrical impulses from the brain to the muscles to control muscle function, while the blood brings in the essential nutrients, i.e. oxygen and energy, to the muscles.

The muscles often work against each other. One muscle produces a one way movement and when we return the movement back the opposite muscle does the job.

there are three different types of muscle tissue:

  • Skeletal muscle tissue, this acts voluntarily.

  • Smooth muscle tissue that works involuntarily

  • Myocardial tissue

For facial expressions alone, we use 17-43 face muscles.

Musculi Linguae - The tongue is made up of striated muscles and is the fastest voluntary muscle in the body. In addition to eating and digesting we need various muscles, consisting of digestion mainly of smooth muscle tissue.

The heart muscle pumps blood around the body and is the only one of its kind. The heart beats an average of 70-80 times per minute for the rest of our lives without getting tired.

Likewise, our breathing works through muscles. The lungs expand as our thorax expands, with the help of the muscles between the ribs as well as the diaphragm. We have different muscles used for breathing in and out. Breathing happens itself, do we even noticed it happening?

ur muscles may be damaged or inflamed. Still, it will survive them and may even fully recover from the damage. I find this very interesting.

How much we burden them and still manage to act. Muscles are a very simple thing in thought, but when we look at them they are really a multi-level whole that is just a part of our body.

Special thank you for Space Place gallery for making this possible.
